Plankton Energy

Waltham, MA — Plankton Energy has completed its third major rooftop community solar project on Waltham Street, with a 540-kilowatt (kW) system now fully operational at 360 Waltham Street, an office property serving the greater Waltham area. This is the largest of three Plankton installations on the block, reflecting the company’s strategic focus on high-impact solar deployments across underutilized commercial rooftops.
The system is structured as a community solar project, meaning that residents across the utility territory can enroll in the program and receive monthly electric bill savings while supporting the local clean energy grid.
Generating over 625,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) annually, this rooftop installation will offset a substantial amount of carbon emissions while helping 170+ households reduce their energy bills. Because the system is connected to the local utility grid, it serves the community without requiring infrastructure on individual homes.
“360 Waltham is a showcase for what’s possible when commercial real estate and clean energy work together,” said a Plankton Energy spokesperson. “We’re maximizing rooftop space, improving the property’s income potential, and delivering direct savings to families nearby.”
In exchange for hosting the solar array, the property owner receives consistent lease payments, creating a new revenue stream without altering the building’s operation or tenant use. These projects are fully managed by Plankton, enabling a hands-off experience for the property owner while delivering lasting environmental and economic returns.
Like the other Waltham installations, 360 Waltham participates in the Massachusetts SMART Program, ensuring the project is financially supported while providing public benefits through community solar credits.
